Cabinet of Ministers wants to stop the outflow of IT specialists abroad

The Ukrainian government announced the launch of a common project of IT companies, reported the portal ain.ua. An Expert Group that includes representatives from both the government and the IT industry is currently working on a detailed plan of action. It will make a presentation on the matter in early April.

The initiators of the program hope to stop the outflow of Ukrainian developers abroad. The program involves improving the work and life conditions of IT specialists in Ukraine, which should motivate them to stay at home. Plans also include the creation of 100,000 new jobs in the IT sector by 2020. USD 1bn will be invested into the expansion and modernization of the educational system of Ukraine. The authors of the initiative will review the tax legislation of Ukraine in the field of IT outsourcing. They estimated that if these steps are successfully implemented, the income from IT-services exports to the U.S. and the EU will be more than USD 10bn.

“Our goal is to move from a resource economy to a knowledge economy,” said the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine, Pavlo Sheremet. The program was discussed and signed by Minister Sheremet and company executives from Ciklum, SoftServe, Miratech, EPAM Ukraine, GlobalLogic, Luxoft Ukraine, and IT Ukraine.
