The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine has arrested 12 from the Berkut special police forces. They are suspected of shooting people on Instytutska St in Kyiv on February 18-20. The information comes from a statement from the head of the GPU press service, Vasyl Zorya, to an Ukrinform correspondent.
“As of the morning of April 3, 12 Berkut soldiers have already been arrested on suspicion of killing people during the protests in Kyiv”, Zorya said.
According to Zorya, the arrested include the commander of a so-called “black company”, members of which, according to the investigations, had guns and shot people. “The investigations are ongoing and developing quickly, so it is hard to say how many more we are going to arrest”, the spokesperson stated.
On April 2 Acting General Prosecutor Oleh Makhnitsky said that GPU, SBU and MIA personnel had arrested three Berkut soldiers suspected of mass shootings of people on Instytutska St in Kyiv on February 20, and that six more cases were currently being investigated.
