Mass searches are being conducted in Crimea in the homes of the Crimean Tatars, the Majilis press secretary Ali Khamzin stated in Kyiv on May 15, as reported by TV Channel 5. He made his statement during the Round Table “Deported Crimea,” organized by the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory to mark the 70th anniversary of the deportation of the Crimean Tatars by the Stalin regime.

The searches began Wednesday night, May 14, and lasted all night, Khamzin said. According to Khamzin, security forces of the annexed republic went to the homes of the Tatars under the pretext of searching for terrorists. However, so far there is no information on the detained or arrested individuals, he said.

“Yesterday there was a search at the home of our leader Mustafa Dzhemilev without his presence. Last night there were mass searches of Crimean Tatars. The charge was always involvement or suspected involvement with terrorism,” Khamzin said. He reported that his own home had been searched as well.
