Former President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma
The second president of Ukraine, Leonid Kuchma, believes the Donetsk region has always played an important role in the political life of Ukraine. He shared his views during the “round table” discussion that took place in Mykolayiv on Wednesday, May 21, as reported by Ukrainska Pravda.
According to Kuchma, the complaints made by regional representatives that the central government in Kyiv supposedly has not listened to them are unfounded.
“All the oblast and district councils in the Southeast (during the Yanukovych regime — ED.) came from the Party of Regions,” he said. “The central government never existed in Donetsk. And I can say this! They themselves managed everything and everyone, and, as they say, they even selected the pre-school nanny themselves,” Kuchma said.
He was supported by the first president of Ukraine, Leonid Kravchuk.
“Everyone from the janitor on up was from Donetsk, from Yenakiyevo (birthplace of Viktor Yanukovych –Ed.) and so on. Even during Soviet times, the party leadership was only from Donetsk, Donetsk and Donetsk,” Kravchuk said.
