Poroshenko offers to sign an agreement with the EU immediately after his inauguration

UNIAN – May 28, 2014

Poroshenko believes it is necessary not to delay signing the economic part of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union. The signing could take place immediately after his inauguration as the new President, according to Poroshenko’s press service.

Signing, entry into [legal] force and implementation of the Agreement, which is essentially part of a plan for implementing the modernization of Ukraine, could allow an opportunity to introduce anti-corruption measures and a reform package in the near future.

The people of Ukraine supported the  pro-European program laid out by Petro Poroshenko when he was presidential candidate. People are unwilling to wait anymore; therefore the government’s current actions should be very active, Poroshenko considers.

Poroshenko expressed hope that the European Union and its leaders – who have consistently supported the European choice of Ukrainian citizens, and declared readiness to complete the signing of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement immediately after the presidential elections in Ukraine – also support this position.
