Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs delivered a note to the Russian chargé d’affaires demanding that a meeting be arranged with the film director Oleh Sentsov, who has been detained by the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation.
Yevhen Perebyynis, head of MFA’s Media Relations Department, described this demand at a briefing in Kyiv on Tuesday, June 3, reports Interfax-Ukraine.
“Today the temporary chargé d’affaires of Russia in Ukraine Andrey Vorobyov was summoned to the MFA of Ukraine and was presented with another note dealing with Russia’s violation of the consular convention between Ukraine and Russia regarding the detention of citizens of Ukraine.” Perebyynis said.”The note contained the demand to ensure a meeting with the Ukrainians, in particular to give them necessary legal assistance,” he said.
Perebyynis also pointed out that Ukrainian diplomats have so far not been able to meet with the detained Ukrainian film director and other citizens of Ukraine.
However, according to MFA information, representatives of Russian non-governmental organizations have met with Sentsov.
“According to their information, the health of our citizens is satisfactory and they have no complaints about the conditions of detention,” he said.
As previously reported, the well-known Ukrainian film director Sentsov was detained in Crimea, May 11, and accused of preparing and organizing a terrorist attack based on the testimony of two unknown individuals who supposedly pointed him out as the organizer.
He has been transported to a prison in Moscow.
