Explosion reported at gas pipeline in Ukraine

There was an explosion at the Urengoy-Pomary-Uzhhorod gas pipeline in the Poltava Oblast in Ukraine, Tuesday afternoon, June 17, reports Interfax Ukraine, citing the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Poltava Oblast.

“Information on the explosion was received around 14:20. Fortunately there were no victims. Firemen are continuing their work,” the press service reported.

According to police, the explosion occurred at the portion of the gas pipeline located in a field, at about one kilometer’s distance from the nearest town. “According to witnesses, the fire reached a height of about 200 meters,” the press service reported.

The press service of the JSC Ukrtransgas does not yet have information on the accident. According to the operator of the gas transportation system of Slovakia, Eustream, as of 14:00 CET (15:00 Kyiv time), there have been no reports of reduced pressure or reduction in gas transit through Ukraine.
