Am 11. Mai fand eine Pseudo-“Volksabstimmung” im Donbass statt. Die Bürger wurden befragt, ob sie die territoriale Integrität der Ukraine unterstützen, einen Anschluss an die Region Dnipropetrowsk oder sich sogar mit Großbritannien verbinden wollten. Die “Volksabstimmung” von Vertretern der sogenannten “Volksrepublik Donezk” erhielt die meiste Aufmerksamkeit. Es war nur eine Frage auf dem Stimmzettel: “Unterstützen Sie das Gesetz über staatliche Selbstbestimmung der Volksrepublik Donezk?”
Die “Volksabstimmung” der Separatisten fand in Schulgebäuden, lokalen Kulturhäusern und Zelten auf der Straße statt. Es gab Warteschlangen an einigen der “Wahllokale”, vor allem von älteren Menschen. Der Hauptgrund für das Gedränge war in der Tat die geringe Anzahl von Abstimmungsorten. Wählerlisten fehlten bei einigen der “Wahllokale”. Manchmal konnten sich die Leute an Ort und Stelle in “Wählerlisten” eintragen lassen, wenn sie ihre Pässe vorzeigten, und manchmal ging das einfach auf mündliche Anfrage. Expert: majority in Donetsk Oblast stand for united Ukraine
On May 11th, a carnival of ‘referendums’ took place in Donbas. Citizens were polled on whether they supported Ukraine’s territorial integrity, would like to join Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, or even to associate with Great Britain. The ‘plebiscite’ held by representatives of the so-called People’s Republic of Donetsk garnered the most publicity. There was only one question on the ballot: “Do you support the Act of State Self-Rule of the People’s Republic of Donetsk?”
The separatists’ ‘people’s referendum’ took place in school buildings, local houses of culture, and tents right in the streets. There were queues at some of the ‘polling stations’, mostly of elderly people. The main reason for the crowding was in fact the lack of places to vote. Voter lists were absent at some of the ‘stations’. Sometimes people were registered on the spot upon showing their passports, and sometimes simply upon oral requests. Russian mass-media have been publishing photos and videos with “large queues of the peoplewilling to cast their votes for the Donetsk National Republic” but the queues are artificially created “pictures”; the referendum’s organizers have opened far fewer polling stations than necessary.
According to the Central Election Committee and the State Register of Electors, the overall number of the voters in Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts is 5.149 million people. Continue reading

Ukrainian troops are ready to repel an attack if there is aggression by Russia after the “referendum” in the Donbas, stated the Secretary of the National Security Council Andriy Parubiy, reports BBC Ukraine.
“If Russia acknowledges the referendum and starts active operations, I declare once again: If there is an act of aggression, Ukraine will defend its territory and its state,” he said. Continue reading
Speaking at the coordination board of the Verkhovna Rada, speaker of the Verkhovna Rada/Acting President Oleksandr Turchynov says 24% of residents of Luhansk Oblast and 32% of Donetsk Oblast with the right to vote had voted in the so-called ‘referendum’, according to the information from the Interior Ministry and experts present on May 11 in the Donetsk Oblast.
At the same time Turchynov underlined that voting at the “referendum” in many towns of Luhansk Region and Donetsk Region was not held at all. Turchynov strressed that the ‘referendum’ is a farce without any act of law. “This farce can have only one consequence: criminal responsibility for its organisers,” he said. Continue reading

Die Umfrage Ansichten und Meinungen der Bewohner der südöstlichen Regionen der Ukraine – April 2014 wurde vom KIIS vom 8. bis 16. April 2014 durchgeführt. Die Ergebnisse sind repräsentativ für die Bevölkerung (18 Jahre und älter) für alle acht Regionen (Oblaste) des Südens und Ostens der Ukraine (Die Oblaste Odessa, Mikolajiw, Cherson, Charkiw, Luhansk, Dnipropetrowsk, Saporischschja und Donezk).
Bei der Umfrage wurde der “gemischte” Typus angewandt. In den großen Städten (mit einer Bevölkerung von 100.000 und mehr) und den Regionalzentren wurden Computer-gestützte Telefoninterviews durchgeführt, in den kleinen Städten und Dörfern wurden gewöhnliche Befragungen in Haushalten durchgeführt.
Im Rahmen der Umfragen wurden insgesamt 3.232 Interviews mit Umfrageteilnehmern durchgeführt, die in 160 Wohnorten im Süden und Osten der Ukraine leben (davon 1.476 Computer-gestützte Telefoninterviews und 1.756 persönliche Interviews bei Hausbesuchen). In jeder Region gab es mindestens 400 Kontakte mit Interviewpartnern.

The SBU arrested two residents of Donetsk Oblast who were transporting 10 000 ballots for the so-called ‘referendum’ by car, as per the agencies’ press service.
All the ballots had a checkmark next to ‘Yes’ for the support federalization of the so-called ‘People’s Republic of Donetsk.’ The offenders were arrested at a checkpoint near Mariupol. As reported in the press service, the detention was part of the anti-terrorist operation conducted by the SBU and armed forces. Investigations are underway. Continue reading
