Yesterday, Sevastopol’s Acting Governor gave order to dismantle monument to Hetman Sahaidachny.

On April 24 Acting Governor Sergey Menyailo returned from a business trip and gave an interview on television.

He stated that two Ukrainian monuments were to leave the city to return to Ukraine before Victory Day on May 9. The acting governor recalled the city’s anthem “Legenday Sevastopol” and pointed to the line: “Sevastopol, Sevastopol – the pride of Russian seamen!”

“Sevastopol has not seen other seamen for centuries. So I have decided to restore justice” – said Sergey Menyailo.


He said that this was the reason behind his order to dismantle two monuments: the monument in honor of the 10th anniversary of the Naval Forces of Ukraine and the monument to Hetman Sahaidachny.
